Ex. Teams and Relays
Maybe your event contains races for teams - such as relays?
Such type of race is set up by enabling 'Teams and relays' (and in most cases also 'Loops and laps') in the 'Event setup' menu:
Note: Only use the loop feature if each member of a team is competing the same lap (same distance and type of race). Thus, a “loop setup” does not work for a triathlon relay, where each team member is doing a different leg.
Notice: It is important that team members who are not currently racing, stay clear of the timing units. This is to avoid the risk of reading their chip/tag unintendedly as such “bad readings” can influence the total result of the team as well as the individual.
BBT can handle multiple types of “Team and relay”. At the moment the following combinations are available.
Normal: Treat teams as individuals
This is the default setting in the BBT timing software.
Each team is treated as an individual, having it's own race number and tags. The team and it's members are completely independent and can race at the same time. The total time of the team is the sum of the individual time of each member.
One tag per team (single tag/depeche relay)
Each team share one chip/tag. This tag is passed from one team member to the next each time one lap is completed. All members need to race one lap each, in the order they are listed on the team. This is a typical relay setup where a physical depeche (with one of more tags fitted) is passed from one member to the next, until all laps have been completed.
All laps will be listed on the team entry, assigning the result of the first lap to the first member on the list and so forht.
Setup: The race has to be configured as a lap event with a lap count that matches the number of team members.
Note: The transition time between two team members can be computed if using one timing unit at the start and one timing unit at the finish.
One tag per team member: Start and finish lines
All members of the team have their own tag as if they were racing individually. However, only one team member is allowed to be on the course at any given time.
There must be physical timing units installed for recording the start and finish times of each lap. When a given team member is racing, his/her time is started when crossing the start line and stopped when crossing the finish line. It is okay for team members to race in any order and a member is allowed to do multiple laps in a row.
The transition time between two team members is included in the total result of the team but not in the individual lap times.
Setup: The event has to be configured as a lap event with a Start timing point, and a Finish timing point for each lap. Any lap count/completion mode can be used.
One tag per team member: Finish line only
This is a simpler version of the “One tag per team member: Start and finish lines” type race as there is no timing unit recording the start times (and indirectly, the transition times). Only the finish time of each lap is recorded using a timing unit at the Finish line.
Instead of having an actual recorded start time, the finish time of one team member automatically becomes the start time for the following member.
Setup: The event has to be configured as a lap event with a Start timing point, and a Finish timing point for each lap. The Start timing point must be present in order for the individual results to work properly. However, it does not have to be assigned any timing unit/location. Any lap count/completion mode may be used.
One tag per team member: Sum of best times
This is the setup for races where the total time of the team is calculated by adding the X best individual times. For example with a team of 4, the team result could be computed as the sum of the best 3 individual times.
All team members have their own tag as if they were racing individually. They are allowed to start together or at different times.
The team will only have finish times computed. Splits and laps will not be computed.
Setup: ???????????????????????????
Team Time Trial
Time Trial where X team members have to pass a timing point for the team to obtain a time, and the best of the individual times becomes the team-time.
Example: A team of four members start at the same time, three members have to pass the timing point for the team to obtain a time, and the third member is the fastest and sets the team time. If the team does not have at least three members pass a timing point, the team will not get a time recorded at that point (including the finish line).
All team members have their own tag, and will get their individual times recorded including splits, laps etc.
Setup: ?????????????? To speficiy that the last team member counts, regardless of the team size (which might vary among the teams), set 0 as the parameter.
Normally, all team members will have the exact same start time (i.e. wave start or fixed time trial start).
